I am a native of Sisseton,
South Dakota.
My father operates a
welding and repair shop. My mother helps keep my dad's shop (and dad)
organized, which counts for two full-time jobs. While in school, I was
active in a wide variety of activities. I was in band, jazz band, golf,
Future Business Leaders of America, and the yearbook staff. In
high school, I was selected to participate in the 1992 All-State Orchestra
and the 1993 All-State Jazz Band, as well as a number of honor bands. I
was a member of the varsity golf team for four years, and lettered for three
years. I graduated from Sisseton
High School in 1993.
After high school, I attended college at
Northern State
University in
Aberdeen, South Dakota.
While at Northern, I participated in the Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, NSU
Marching Wolves, Aberdeen University Civic Symphony, Brass Choir, and the
University/Community Band. I also worked as a staff writer, and later
as the Arts and Entertainment Editor for the Exponent, the university
newspaper. After five busy but fun years, I graduated with a B.M.E. degree
(Summa Cum Laude) in May of 1998. Shortly after graduation I accepted a
teaching position in Eureka.
I currently teach instrumental music for grades 5-12, World History for high
school sophomores, and 6th grade English. I have also served
as the varsity golf coach for the past thirteen seasons. I currently am a
member of South Dakota Bandmasters and South Dakota Music Educators
Association/Music Educators National Conference, and I have served as the
President for Region VI Music since 2001.
In my free time, I like to golf, although
not always as often or as well as I would like. I am an avid sports
fan, with football, baseball, and golf as my favorite spectator sports.
I root for the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Twins; my favorite pro
golfers are Jack Nicklaus, John Daly, and Tiger Woods. I like to relax by
watching shows on television, with Law & Order and SportsCenter
being my favorites. I also enjoy spending time with my wife Alison, our
children (Benjamin, Anna, Ella, and Becca) and our dog, Tootie.
